Accessibility Statement
We want everyone to be able to use this website. Here is what is built in, how we check it, and how to tell us when something doesn’t work.
Our aim
We aim for this website to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. It has been built and checked with that standard in mind, but it has not been independently audited, so we do not claim full conformance. Where we know something falls short, it is listed below.
What is built in
- Every page has a clear heading structure, landmarks (header, navigation, main content and footer) and a “Skip to content” link.
- Everything can be reached and used with a keyboard, and the element you are on is always visibly outlined.
- The menu and the photograph viewer on the Projects page are native dialogs: focus stays inside while they are open, Escape closes them, and focus returns to where you were. In the viewer, the arrow keys move between photographs.
- Photographs that carry meaning have text descriptions; decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- Text colours are chosen to meet contrast guidelines against their backgrounds.
- Pages work at any size, from a phone to a large screen, and with browser zoom, without scrolling sideways.
- Nothing plays sound, and nothing on the site flashes.
- Everything important is written in the page itself, so it can be read by screen readers and translation tools.
Motion and the 3D model
The site uses animation as you scroll. If your device is set to reduce motion, the site respects it: animation and smooth scrolling are switched off and every section appears in its finished state, with the same content.
The Process page follows one design as a 3D model. Each stage is also described in text, and when motion is reduced, your browser cannot show 3D, or it is set to save data, the model is replaced by still images of each stage with descriptions.
The inquiry form
- Every field has a visible label; hints are linked to their fields, and optional fields are marked.
- If something needs attention, the message appears next to the field and is announced, and a list by the Send button links to each one.
- Photos can be added with a keyboard as well as by dragging, and each can be removed before sending.
How we check it
Before launch, each page was checked with automated accessibility testing (axe), tested with the keyboard alone, reviewed with motion reduced, and viewed at phone, tablet and desktop sizes. The site’s code also includes automated tests for headings, page titles, keyboard use of the menu, the skip link and the form.
Known limitations
- The site has not yet been tested by people who use screen readers or voice control every day.
- Testing so far has been in Chromium-based browsers (such as Chrome and Edge); Safari and Firefox have not yet been tested as thoroughly.
- Photo credits are set in small type.
- The 3D model on the Process page is visual; its text and still images carry the same information.
